Regional NSW trio OhMaSoul are carving out a space all their own — blending neo-soul grooves, jazzy harmonies, and warm, heartfelt storytelling into a sound that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly new. Led by the expressive vocals of Jemimah Hiscox, with James Brinkhoff on shimmering analog keys and Thomas Hogarth bringing laid-back, groove-driven drums, the band deliver music that’s thoughtful, soulful, and overflowing with feel.
Rooted somewhere between modern neo-soul and classic jazz writing, OhMaSoul create from a place of honesty and connection. Their debut EP Always Here captures exactly that — an intimate, organic collection shaped by lived experience, vulnerable lyricism, and a whole lot of musical chemistry.

A True Homegrown Recording Journey
The band tracked the EP locally with producer Pat Harris, keeping the process simple, organic, and vibe-focused. “It was a basic home studio setup,” they share, “but Pat knows what he’s doing and was so chilled and encouraging — it really brought out the best in us.”
From there, the trio teamed up with Australian jazz-fusion great Jim Kelly, who helped shape the final sound. Working remotely through emails and phone calls, Jim guided the mixes into a warm, balanced, and soulful finish. “He’s as clever at production as he is as a musician,” the band says, crediting him with capturing their essence beautifully.
Track by Track — Stories From the Soul
“Always Here”A reflective neo-soul ballad anchored by silky vocals, Rhodes, Hammond, warm analog bass and gentle brushwork. Playful scat in the bridge gives the track a lift before it settles back into its intimate core. The song explores rediscovering a connection that never truly left — just waited quietly to return.
“What Is This”A jazz-fusion journey that moves from a cathedral-like intro to a melancholic verse and a vibrant, uplifting chorus. With mixed meters and vintage ’70s textures, it echoes artists like Becca Stevens and Taylor Eigsti. Written from grief and faith, it captures the struggle to understand loss and the comfort found through Psalm 42.
“My Cup”Warm, soulful and floating in 6/8, this track channels early 2000s neo-soul — D’Angelo, Jill Scott, Musiq Soulchild — with shimmering Rhodes and lush Hammond textures. Lyrically, it celebrates a deeper blessing that fills and sustains the soul.
“Rollin’”Sparked by a nostalgic family car — a rusty old troop carrier — this one captures the love, memories and rhythm wrapped up in something frayed but cherished. After driving it herself, Jemimah saw its sentimental weight, and the track reflects that warmth and motion beautifully.
“Whisper”A stripped-back jazz ballad that sits close to the heart. Jemimah reflects on the voices that guide her, choosing the quiet, steady voice she knows best — inspired by the gentle whisper that spoke to Elijah. It’s an intimate, faith-filled moment and one of the band’s most touching tracks.
