Eora/Sydney-based dream-rock trio Fathom have just released their brand-new single Do I Dare? produced, mixed and mastered by Paul Najar (The Rions, Freddie White) at Jaminajar Studios. Landing worldwide on September 25, the track is already capturing attention for its expansive soundscapes and lyrical depth.

Do I Dare? opens with the crisp resonance of acoustic guitar, pairing fragile textures with poignant lyrics that explore uncertainty and vulnerability. Angelic harmonies drift in and out, while lush pads create an atmosphere of longing and a pursuit of connection. As the song unfolds, self-doubt re-emerges in the bridge, peeling back layers of sound before marching drums and gated synths hypnotically capture the rigidity of daily life. A triumphant final chorus explodes with distorted guitars, soaring synth leads and a storm of backing vocals, culminating in a euphoric crescendo.
Inspired by T. S. Eliot’s poem The Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock, the single reflects on the compromises made in the name of love, framed within a sonic storm of dream-pop and indie rock.
Fathom have already gained traction on community radio, with support from 2SER, 4ZZZ, Edge Radio, Radio Adelaide, Southern FM and RTRFM, and their recent releases have captured the imagination of fans across the country. Their festival debut at Play on the Plains (Deniliquin, 2024) saw them share the stage with heavyweights like King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Alex Lahey and Baker Boy, further cementing their reputation as a band to watch.
Blending the atmospheric soundscapes of Beach House and The Cranberries with the edge of indie rock and a hint of prog, Fathom — Cate Guirguis, Jaxon Italiano and Ben Callicott — offer a sound that is immersive, poetic and uniquely their own.
With Do I Dare? now out in the world, Fathom invite listeners to step into their dream-rock universe and get swept away.
